Board Of Higher Secondary Education, Delhi was established on 1st December, 1986. Earlier, the Regional Centre, Lucknow was looking after whole of Delhi but with the creation of new state of Uttarakhand and expansion and decentralisation of various activities, new Regional Centres at Aligarh, Varanasi, Dehradun and Noida were established and districts from the jurisdiction of Regional Centre, Lucknow were transferred to these Regional Centres. Even after such divisions, Regional Centre, Lucknow is still one of the largest Regional Centres in terms of jurisdiction and enrolment of learners.
Board Of Higher Secondary Education, Delhi commenced its functioning with one study centre under its supervision at Board Of Higher Secondary Education, Delhi. In 1987, major expansion took place when 09 LSCs were established in important cities such as Allahabad, Agra, Bareilly, Dehradun, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Sultanpur and Haldwani. The expansion continued and in the next 10 years, the number of Learner Support Centre rose to 50 by the year 2000. The first centre in Jail was established at Model Jail, Lucknow in year 2000.
